H2: How to Understand If YouTube TV Is Worth It for You?

To find out if YouTube TV is really worth it for you, it is useful to select a base plan and add-ons that best match your preferences, and assess how much they will cost you per viewing hour, per month, and per year. You can do it easily with our free YouTube TV Subscription Cost Calculator. It allows you to check the active pricing and special offers for all currently available YouTube TV plans and add-ons, and estimate the hourly, monthly, and yearly totals for all items selected for subscription, with or without promotions.

We believe this is a more comprehensive method of estimating the value of subscriptions than merely considering the monthly costs of different services. It is insufficient use that often leads to overpaying for services, rather than high recurrent costs.

For example, if you can currently spend only a very limited amount of time watching YouTube TV, your hourly cost may be high even if you choose a plan or a standalone add-on with a low monthly price. But the more hours your household uses the service, the lower the hourly cost will be. That is why the true cost of expanded subscriptions with multiple add-ons might still be relatively low for larger households or heavy YouTube TV users.

The annual YouTube TV price is also important. A monthly bill may not appear high, especially during the promotional period. Only when the smaller payments add up throughout the year can you see a bigger financial picture.

How to Use the YouTube TV Subscription Cost Calculator?

You will need to complete five simple steps:

1.Confirm if you are a new or returning YouTube TV user

We need this information to be able to correctly apply promotional prices as they are mostly for new users only.

2. Select a YouTube TV base plan

YouTube TV offers a range of plans that can provide sufficient programming depending on your needs while allowing you to subscribe to a variety of add-ons.

At the time of publication, YouTube advertised its main YouTube TV plan as the most comprehensive option. But if you have specific preferences for certain genres and shows, dedicated plans like Sports, Entertainment, News may be a better fit for you.

You do not need a base plan if you are interested only in standalone add-ons. These include numerous channels, which you can subscribe to directly, for instance, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, Hallmark+ or PokerGO.

Note that each YouTube TV base plan allows streaming on up to 3 devices simultaneously. However, you may see the following message during onboarding: “Watch up to 4 streams simultaneously with multiview, at home or on the go.

This refers to the Multiview device feature, which lets you watch multiple programs on the same screen at once. With it, you can watch up to 4 programs simultaneously across 3 devices, with at least 2 programs displayed on the same device.

To stream on more than 3 devices simultaneously at home, choose the 4K Plus add-on.

3. Pick YouTube TV add-ons

If you select one of the base plans in Step 2, you can add platform-feature add-ons . For your comfort, we have added popular YouTube TV 4K Plus to the top of our list. This add-on offers users unlimited streams, along with other benefits.

At this step, you will also find a selection of standalone add-ons that do not require a YouTube TV base plan subscription. If you are only interested in specific channels, you can create your own custom bundle at this stage instead of opting for one of the predefined base plans. However, you can also add these channels on top of a base plan, if you would like to combine both options.

To make navigation easier, we have grouped around 50 standalone channels currently available into genres and sorted them by popularity.

Note that at the time of publication, four options for the NFL Sunday Ticket subscription were available. YouTube TV allows you to choose it as an add-on to a base plan for a reduced price or select it as a standalone add-on. Both options are also available as bundles with RedZone.

4. Provide your weekly viewing hours

To calculate the exact value of the selected subscriptions, we need an approximate estimate of how much time you are likely to spend watching YouTube TV per week. We believe a weekly total can better represent your potential subscription usage, as it can vary across days of the week.

To estimate this number, think about the time you and the other household members who will watch separately will use YouTube TV from Monday to Sunday. Add the hours for each day together. This will give you the estimated viewing hours to enter in the calculator field.

Understand how much TV you usually watch

Not sure how many hours you will watch? Try this simple approach. Think about a typical week in your household and ask yourself how much time you could realistically spend watching YouTube TV on a normal weekday and on the weekend. For example:

  • 1 hour per weekday and 2 hours per weekend day will give you about 1.3 hours/day on average;
  • 2 hours per weekday and 3 hours per weekend day, for a total of about 2.3 hours/day on average;
  • 3 hours per weekday and 4 hours per weekend day is about 3.3 hours/day on average.

Consider your work or school schedule, meals, sleep, other activities, and how often you actually watch TV. Estimate the viewing time for each person in your household who will watch separately and add it together.

Remember, you do not need an exact number. A realistic estimate is enough to give you a useful idea of your hourly cost. But be honest with yourself about the time you can actually spend watching YouTube TV. Do not assume you will be doing it just because you want to. You need sufficient time in your weekly schedule. Otherwise, the true cost of your subscription per hour will be higher than you expect.

5. Review your results

If you provide all the data as requested by our YouTube Subscription Cost Calculator, you will see our verdict at Step 5. The message you receive will instantly communicate whether the subscriptions you choose are worth it for you.

The calculator makes these conclusions based on the effective value per viewing hour, calculated by dividing the total monthly subscription cost by total household viewing hours. Although we will provide you with the price breakdown for both the promotional period and after its expiration, the verdict uses regular prices. This is so because many users are eligible only for the temporary discounts, which may significantly reduce the initial YouTube TV subscription costs.

Based on the current market prices, we assume that:

  • The cost per hour is low when it does not exceed $0.25. This will give excellent financial value for the selected subscriptions;
  • The cost per hour is moderate if it ranges from $0.26 to $0.75. This is currently reasonable for TV services, still giving you financial value;
  • The cost per hour is high if it exceeds $0.75, which can lead to overpaying.

Keep in mind that this verdict reflects your specific viewing habits and selected subscriptions, rather than YouTube TV's overall quality. Your result can change if your viewing hours or selected subscriptions change.

The results will also include the actual monthly and annual YouTube TV subscription costs so you can better estimate potential expenses. The annual expenses are particularly useful for estimating how much of your yearly income will go toward your YouTube TV subscription.

Why YouTube TV Price Alone Doesn't Tell You If It Is Worth It

A YouTube TV price is not the same as a household's actual subscription cost, and subscription cost is not the same as value.

Price refers to the advertised price of an individual YouTube TV plan or add-on. Subscription cost refers to the total cost of the specific plans and add-ons selected by a household, including applicable promotional pricing. Value depends on how much the household actually uses the service.

This distinction is important when answering the question, "Is YouTube TV worth it?" A meaningful answer requires more than the advertised monthly price. It may require the selected base plan, selected add-ons, promotional eligibility, promotional duration, and estimated household viewing hours.

YouTube TV pricing can also change over time. Promotional offers may apply only to certain subscribers, last for different periods, or change independently of the standard subscription price. As a result, the price of a particular subscription configuration may differ from the headline price shown in a general search result.

The available subscription options also make a simple price lookup incomplete. YouTube TV offers multiple base plans and a large selection of add-ons, including sports, entertainment, family, news, and niche subscription options. Some options can be combined with a base plan, while others are available as standalone subscriptions. The relevant subscription cost therefore depends on the exact configuration being considered.

A general search result can provide useful pricing information, but it may not contain every currently available subscription option, combination, promotional offer, or eligibility condition in one place. Some pricing information may also be presented through interactive plan-selection or account flows rather than as a single continuously updated public list.

The YouTube TV Subscription Cost Calculator brings these variables together. Users select the subscription options they are considering, enter their estimated household viewing hours, and receive an estimate of their monthly subscription cost, annual subscription cost, and effective cost per viewing hour, both during the promotional period and after its expiration.

The cost-per-hour calculation provides a way to relate subscription cost to actual household usage. The same monthly subscription price can produce very different effective costs depending on how many hours the household uses YouTube TV. A household that watches the service frequently may have a substantially lower cost per viewing hour than a household paying the same subscription price but watching much less.

For this reason, the calculator's result is a personalized estimate based on the user's selected subscription and estimated household usage. It is not a rating of YouTube TV's overall service quality, channel selection, reliability, or features.

The result should also not be treated as a permanent price guarantee. YouTube TV prices, promotional offers, available subscription options, and household viewing habits can change. The calculator is intended to provide a current estimate based on the pricing information used by the calculator and the user's inputs.

In other words, "Is YouTube TV worth it?" is not simply a price lookup. It is a personalized value calculation that combines current subscription information, the household's selected configuration, and realistic household usage.
